Oncu: from Eicma to the UK to undergo surgery

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing was present at the eightieth edition of the Eicma in Milan, the international motorcycle exhibition, not only with its impressive hospitality, but also with its two 2023 riders: Tito Rabat and Can Oncu.

For both it was a warm crowd, with many fans who approached the two riders of Manuel Puccetti’s team for a selfie, or an autographed poster. The most important motorcycle fair in the world was also an opportunity for Kawasaki Puccetti Racing to meet and greet all its sponsors present in Milan.

Can Oncu was at the fair in the first two days, but on Thursday 9 November he flew to England, to be admitted to the Royal Orthopedic Hospital in Birmingham where he underwent surgery performed by Dr. Dominique Power, a true luminary for this type of surgery interventions.

Despite having had sufficient functionality of his left upper limb to complete the races, Oncu was only able to maintain a top performance for 8 or 9 laps. It was therefore decided to proceed with surgery, targeting some sections of the brachial plexus that had been damaged in the April accident at Assen.

The surgery was performed on Sunday 12 November, lasted about eight hours and had a positive outcome. For the young Turkish rider, a convalescence period of about a month and a half now begins, before he can begin rehabilitation, with the aim of being ready for the start of the Supersport world championship.

Manuel Puccetti

“Eicma was an exciting opportunity to meet our supporters and our sponsors, who we welcomed in our hospitality, installed in pavilion 11. Two days of celebration which preceded Oncu’s departure for England, where is undergoing surgery, necessary to allow our rider to recover as best as possible from the injury suffered in Assen. Now we will be close to him during the period of convalescence and subsequent rehabilitation, to help him return to the best physical condition and to allow him to compete in a 2024 WorldSSP as a protagonist.”
