The first race of the eighth WorldSSP round at the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary played out today. Competing for the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team, Jeremy Alcoba took part in a practice session and Superpole on Friday, qualifying eleventh for today’s Race 1.
This meant that the Spaniard lined up on the fourth row of the grid for the afternoon’s 18-lap race.
When the lights went out, Jeremy moved up into the chasing group, lying around tenth. As the race went on, he battled with those in his group and oscillated between tenth and twelfth. Unfortunately, in the final stages, on used tyres, Alcoba lost a few positions and crossed the line fourteenth, scoring two points in the process. He now lies eighth in the general standings with 107 points.
On Sunday Alcoba will compete in the weekend’s second and final race at the Hungarian track.

“Today was a tough day in the office. I made a really good start and tried to be careful through the first two corners, because seeing what happened in the WorldSBK race I wanted to manage it as well as possible. I think I did well in the first part of the race and was in ninth place, I think. From there, the pace was not as good as we expected. I struggled a lot during the race and the last laps were really difficult. We were in a good fight with some other riders, and I enjoyed that, but I lost the fight this time. Let’s see what the weather looks like tomorrow and if it rains, maybe that will help us. Thanks to everyone on the team and let’s look to tomorrow.”
