Oncu top ten at Assen in a race 2 made complicated by rain

The third round of the WorldSSP championship has now concluded at Assen. Rain and difficult track conditions prevented Oncu from demonstrating his full potential and that of the Kawasaki ZX-6R yesterday. In Race 1, which ran on a partially wet track, the young Turkish rider placed sixteenth.

Race 2 took place this afternoon on a track that was still damp following rain earlier in the day. Almost all riders, Oncu included, elected to use slick tyres, believing that the track would dry. But instead, a few laps into the race, the rain returned, and the Turkish rider had to pit to change tyres. Once back on track, Can got into a good rhythm, doing his best to avoid mistakes on the slippery surface and crossing the line tenth, to score six championship points.

The next WorldSSP round will run over the weekend of 14-16 June at the Misano World Circuit, in Italy.

Can Oncu

“I made quite a fast start but once the rain came, we just dropped further and further back, which is obviously not what we wanted. We have to continue to work and improve. I hope things will pick up soon, particularly considering that we head to Misano next, which is the team’s home round.”
