The eleventh round of the WorldSSP championship got underway today at the Estoril Circuit in Portugal. The morning’s practice was characterised by cloudy skies and rain, the session running on a very wet, slippery track that ultimately betrayed Can Oncu.
The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider crashed during the opening session and suffered a deep cut to his right knee. As a result, the doctors have deemed him unfit to continue with the weekend.
The young Turkish rider and his team have to hope that he will be able to compete in the season’s final round, taking place at Jerez in Spain in just one week’s time (18-20 October).

Can Oncu
“Considering the track conditions, I made a cautious start and tried not to make any mistakes. But unfortunately, the front tyre lost grip on a wet patch heading into a corner and I crashed, hurting my right knee. The circuit medical staff did a good job of treating me but wouldn’t give me the OK to continue with this round. I hope to be better in time to compete at Jerez next week, as I really want to round out the championship with a positive result.”
